The Gaming Giant Recruits Apex Legends Developer to Revitalize Challenged Hero Shooter Ambitious Title

2K Games has secured Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Management Shift Follows Mixed Feedback

Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at 31st Union following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' underwhelming initial reveal last fall.

On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure updated staff about this strategic move through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had shown the need for a more defined game identity.

The president noted that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a revised vision, aiming to address player expectations.

A Pattern of Strategic Recruitment

The news echoes a comparable move taken by the publisher in August, when they recruited an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise development group.

Here is the complete message from the president's announcement:

Dear Team—

I know you all just wrapped up your meeting - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a message, I stated the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative developers we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re excited for that partnership to persist.”

Through your commitment and versatility, especially over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.

The gamer responses from last fall’s Project ETHOS playtest was informative. It confirmed the promise of a action-packed game but told us we still had work to do. It revealed the necessity for a clearer vision.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You took the feedback to heart and reimagined the title with a revitalized direction - one that’s ready to fulfill its promise to our players.

The belief in this project increases every day. To further the incredible development you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome Ben Brinkman as the incoming Studio Head of the team. After a period of talks, he officially joins us on Monday, October 20.

Ben’s leadership and experience in the competitive gaming field is extensive, having dedicated the past decade and a half developing and overseeing some of the most popular titles in gaming, including the acclaimed shooter, and lately, the battle royale hit.

Please join me in receiving Ben next week. We are all eager to continue observing the development of the game in the time to come.
