Resurgent Medvedev Secures Maiden Title in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev won his initial championship for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a former number one, has endured a torrid season, winning just one win at the big events and experiencing a setback at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and eventually separating with long-term coach his previous coach.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought competitive victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks his maiden championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court after March of the previous year.

Victory also signifies he has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six finals, including in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had prompted commentators to doubt if his capacity to perform at the top level was concluded.

But the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to come to the net and compete positively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, winning 4 of the last five points to take the lead.

Both players exchanged breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden tour title, took control to push for a decider.

He defended four early break points in a competitive third set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner clinched victory with a rally at the net, with his opponent failing to control a return after a lengthy match.
