Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Police then found many other marked cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state early analysis show the liquid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; officials are presently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the incident," they added.
Local authorities said they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the community for information.
A senior representative commented the incident made him speechless and had to be solved promptly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
